Chris Paul's first opportunity to face his former team will have to wait.

The nine-time All-Star point guard was ruled out of Friday's home game against the Los Angeles Clippers due to a groin injury.

Paul forced a trade from the Clippers to the Houston Rockets in the offseason after spending the previous six seasons with Los Angeles.

Paul suffered a strained left adductor during Wednesday's 122-116 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. He isn't expected to miss too much time.

"I think he's day to day, but we're going to be real cautious with it, I'm sure," Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni told reporters.

Paul missed 14 games earlier this season due to a knee injury.

Houston won the first 15 games Paul played in this season prior to the setback against the Lakers. Paul is averaging 17.1 points, 9.0 assists and 2.1 steals for the Rockets (25-5).

Houston's strong start prompts the ability to be cautious with Paul's injury.

"He could have played on it, but then he would have been out a lot longer," D'Antoni said. "So he should be OK. I don't know what that means, exactly how many days, but right now it's day to day and we'll see what happens."

Meanwhile, Rockets center Clint Capela (heel) is doubtful to play against the Clippers, while forward Luc Mbah a Moute (shoulder) will miss his fifth straight game.
